The Pursuit of Purple

The Pursuit of Purple field trip was all about the draw of the purple faces of amethyst crystals we have found on several trips the JXR mine in Wilkes County, Georgia. My daughter, Katelyn, aka "The Amethyst Hunter", and my son, Andrew, went with me on this trip. It was our way to celebrate the end of a really LONG school year!

This was Andrew's first official time camping out in a tent. We have dubbed this the McTent.

Even though it was a zillion degrees outside, Andrew insisted on making a fire. Pyroman had us nothing short of a bonfire going in no time....guess you just can't call it a campout without one!

After we got everything set up, we went for a walk on the river's shore. There were several very large catfish skeletons on the beach. This particular one was HUGE! (Katelyn's shoe is a size 9.) I knicknamed him "Bubba".

The sun was setting as we walked on the beach. I finally got Andrew to let me get his picture....so glad I did!

We stayed at the Broad River Campground. I think they special order spectacular sunsets for their guests.

Rise and Shine! I hear the Amethyst calling! We made it through the night...and we really DIDN'T melt! Thank God for FANS!
